Bangladesh’s financial situation remains fragile and further economic deterioration could affect everyone, opposition lawmaker Saiful Alam Khan Milon said Saturday after a parliamentary committee meeting.
Milon, a Jamaat-e-Islami lawmaker, said irregularities continue in the financial sector, particularly banking, and urged the government to act cautiously.
Parliamentary Standing Committee on Ministry of Finance reviewed Bank Resolution (Amendment) Bill and recommended that parliament pass it in amended form, according to a parliament secretariat statement.
Milon said the meeting focused on repealing Section 18(A) of Bank Resolution Act 2026, a provision opposition lawmakers had criticized when the law was passed.
“We had called for the repeal of Section 18(A), and now the government has brought a proposal to repeal it,” he said.
Committee chairman Mushfiqur Rahman chaired the meeting, which finance minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury attended.
