Bangladesh protesters demand arrests over legendary actor Salman Shah’s death

Protesters formed a human chain in Jashore demanding arrests and prosecutions over the death of legendary movie star Salman Shah, rejecting claims that the actor died by suicide and alleging that he was murdered.

The demonstration was part of a nationwide series of protests by fans seeking justice in one of Bangladesh’s most prominent and disputed celebrity death cases.

Speakers described the suicide claim as a “staged drama” intended to conceal what they called a planned killing. They demanded the arrest of Shah’s then-wife, Samira, actor Don, and Aziz Mohammad, alleging their involvement in the death.

Protesters said Don, known for playing villainous roles, has already been detained, while other suspects remain at large in Bangladesh or abroad.

Participants said demands for an investigation and trial have continued through the governments of former prime ministers Khaleda Zia and Sheikh Hasina, the interim government led by Muhammad Yunus, and the current administration. They urged authorities to move quickly to bring all suspects before a court.

Speakers also paid tribute to Shah’s lasting popularity, calling him a stylish performer whose fashion and screen presence influenced South Asian cinema, including Bollywood stars Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan.

Fans from several generations joined the rally, including younger supporters who never saw Shah perform during his lifetime but said they remain drawn to his films and want accountability for his death.

“We want justice for his murder—that is our only demand,” said one protester. She said she has never seen him alive, but is a big fan of his films.
