Bangladesh plans to give Probashi Card holders a 3% incentive on remittances after the card is finalized and distributed, state minister for expatriates’ welfare and overseas employment Nurul Haque Nur said Tuesday.
Migrant workers currently receive a 2.5% government cash incentive when they send money through formal channels. Nur said pilot programs for the card are underway in four countries, but he did not provide a launch date.
The government has identified benefits across 11 sectors to support migrant workers’ dignity, he said at an event marking the 30th anniversary of the Refugee and Migratory Movements Research Unit (RMMRU).
Nur also said officials were developing a grading system for recruiting agencies after allegations that some workers paid agencies but were abandoned. Technical Training Centre curricula are also being revised to match overseas labor-market demand.
