Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) vice chancellor Sk Shariful Alam left the campus Tuesday evening after students confined him for nearly 30 hours, The Financial Express reported.
Chattogram deputy commissioner Mohammad Zahidul Islam Mia and superintendent of police Masud Alam arrived around 6:30 p.m. and helped Shariful leave with administrative assistance. Ten other people trapped inside also departed.
Students had confined the vice chancellor to the administrative building since 12:30 p.m. Monday during protests demanding his resignation. Deshweek previously reported that students locked Shariful inside after he entered the building by breaking a lock.
The departure marks a confirmed development in the campus dispute previously covered by Deshweek. The report said administrative officials helped end the confinement but did not announce a permanent leadership decision.
