Bangladesh plans to hold retests within 15 days of Secondary School Certificate (SSC) results for students who fail up to two subjects, education minister ANM Ehsanul Haque Milon said Tuesday.
Students who fail again may be directed to technical and vocational education, Milon said during an orientation program for education cadre officials in Bogura. Results would determine whether students continue in general education or shift to vocational study.
The proposal seeks to prevent students from losing an academic year. It follows an earlier government statement that unsuccessful candidates could retake failed subjects within three months.
The 2026 SSC and equivalent results, published Aug. 10, showed 690,608 candidates, or 37.75%, failed. Re-scrutiny later added 4,585 successful candidates. The report described the retest system as planned and did not identify an implementation date beyond the proposed 15-day timetable.
