Bangladesh plans admission review for English-medium students

Bangladesh will form a committee to review public university admission opportunities for English-medium students, education minister ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon said Sunday, according to The Business Standard.

The University Grants Commission (UGC) will lead the panel, which will examine whether and how students following foreign curricula can seek admission on equal terms with other applicants.

Its recommendations will provide the basis for a policy, Milon said at a Dhaka seminar organized by the Alliance of Private English Medium Schools.

The announcement outlines a planned review rather than an approved change to admission rules.

Milon cited India and Pakistan as having policies that establish equivalence between O-level and A-level certificates and their higher secondary qualifications. He said Bangladesh was also working on educational equivalence and called for stronger teaching of national history, Bengali language, and culture in English-medium schools.
