Bangladesh’s International Crimes Tribunal-2 framed charges Sunday against 26 people over the killings of Mir Mahfuzur Rahman Mugdho and 10 others during the July 2024 uprising, The Financial Express reported, citing bdnews24.com.
The tribunal ordered the trial to proceed and scheduled prosecutors’ opening statement and the start of witness testimony for Nov. 4.
Eight detained defendants appeared in court, denied the charges, and sought justice. Eighteen others remained at large, including former lawmaker Mohammad Habib Hasan and former Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) commissioner Habibur Rahman.
Prosecutors brought two charges concerning alleged attacks on protesters in Dhaka’s Uttara area on July 18 and 19, 2024.
The prosecution described the incidents as planned, widespread, and systematic crimes against humanity. Its allegations include fatal shootings and the killing of an Uber driver beneath a police armored personnel carrier.
