Bangladesh removes six police officers for unauthorized absence after July Uprising

Bangladesh has dismissed six senior police officers for remaining absent from work without permission for more than 60 days after the July Uprising, according to government notifications issued Monday.

Senior secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs Monjur Morshed Chowdhury signed six separate gazette notifications ordering the dismissals, which took effect immediately.

Those dismissed were former police superintendent Arifur Rahman Mondal, former additional police deputy commissioner Rajib Das, former additional deputy inspector general (DIG) Mohammad Zayedul Alam, former Anti-Terrorism Unit (ATU) police superintendent Mohammad Chanowar Hossain, former additional police superintendent Palash Ranjan Dey, and former Dhaka police superintendent Asaduzzaman.

Each notification said the officer was dismissed as a major penalty under the Government Servants (Discipline and Appeal) Rules for unauthorized absence from the workplace. Government had previously moved to dismiss a larger group of police officers over alleged absconding.
