Bangladesh PM set for Sept. 24 UN address after New York arrival

Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman arrived in New York on Monday to attend the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), beginning a visit that includes bilateral meetings and high-level events.

A Turkish Airlines flight carrying Rahman, his wife, Zubaida Rahman, and members of his entourage landed at John F. Kennedy International Airport at 6:20 p.m. after a stopover in Istanbul.

Rahman is scheduled to address the UNGA on Sept. 24, his first speech to the assembly as prime minister. His itinerary also includes meetings with United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres and leaders from Pakistan, Bhutan, Croatia, Thailand, Haiti, and Kuwait.

He is also scheduled to attend events on the Rohingya crisis, climate action, sea-level rise, and maternal and newborn health before leaving New York on Sept. 25.
