Bangladesh internet use rises to 59.2% as mobile access expands

Internet and mobile phone use increased across Bangladesh over the past year, according to new government data released Sunday.

Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) figures showed 59.2% of people aged 5 and older used the internet during the April-June quarter, up from 55% a year earlier.

Mobile phone use rose to 89.6% from 88.2%, while personal mobile phone ownership increased to 65.6% from 64.2%. Computer use remained relatively low at 11.8%.

At the household level, 99% had access to at least one mobile phone, 75.1% had smartphone access, and 58.2% had internet access.

BBS said its Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Access and Use Survey 2025-26 covered 61,632 households across 2,568 sample areas in all 64 districts. Officials said the findings will support development planning and tracking of digital access indicators.
