Bangladesh president backs advanced drones, technology to strengthen border security

Bangladesh President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir called for a stronger role by Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in preventing border killings, smuggling, drug trafficking, and push-ins during a meeting at Bangabhaban on Monday.

BGB director general Maj. Gen. Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui met the president for a courtesy call and congratulated him on assuming office.

Siddiqui briefed Fakhrul on the force’s overall activities and initiatives to strengthen surveillance along the borders through advanced drones and other modern technologies.

The meeting focused on strengthening BGB’s operational role and surveillance capacity along Bangladesh’s borders.

Fakhrul praised the effort to introduce advanced technology to improve border security and assured BGB of full cooperation in carrying out the initiative.

Secretaries to the president and other senior officials were present during the meeting.
