Bangladesh will enlist renewable energy service providers by district and geographical area as part of an effort to expand rooftop solar nationwide, the Power Division said Sunday.
Service providers will offer technical assistance, investment and business packages, customer services, and operation and maintenance support for rooftop solar and other renewable energy technologies.
Local businesses, small and medium entrepreneurs, young people, women entrepreneurs, and technology companies will be eligible to participate. Local firms will also be able to partner with national companies and investors.
Officials aim to expand rooftop solar beyond major cities and a small group of large companies, with particular attention to rural and remote areas.
Bangladesh is targeting renewable energy for 20% of electricity generation by 2030, including 5,500 megawatts (MW) from rooftop solar. Government plans also include financing, tax, duty, and startup incentives.
