Bangladesh border force steps up campaign against Indian push-ins and illegal crossings

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Battalion-47 has intensified an awareness campaign along the Kushtia and Meherpur borders to deter push-ins from India, illegal crossings, and smuggling, officials said Wednesday.

The campaign, which began Tuesday, includes public announcements, meetings, and rallies urging residents to report suspicious cross-border activity to the nearest BGB camp or patrol team. Residents were also told not to shelter strangers, assist illegal crossings, or take part in drugs and arms trafficking, human trafficking, or smuggling.

BGB said legal action would be taken against anyone helping illegal crossings and that informants would be rewarded and kept confidential.

Lieutenant Colonel Rashed Kamal Rony, commander of Battalion-47, said the outreach was part of periodic border security efforts.

“Such awareness campaigns are conducted from time to time. The border situation is currently normal,” he said.
