Two motorcyclists killed after lorry crashes into vehicles in Dhaka

Two motorcyclists were killed and at least five other people were seriously injured after a container-carrying lorry crashed into an auto-rickshaw and two motorcycles in Dhaka, according to police and eyewitness accounts.

The crash occurred near the Wireless Gate area in Moghbazar as the lorry descended from a flyover.

The dead were identified as Zaman Ahmed and Riyad, both from Narail Sadar. Doctors at Dhaka Medical College Hospital declared them dead upon arrival.

An eyewitness said the driver appeared to be desperately trying to stop the lorry before it struck the vehicles, apparently after its brakes failed.

Police said the driver fled after the crash.

“We are looking into the cause of the accident,” an unnamed police spokesperson said. “The driver fled immediately after the incident occurred, but we have successfully detained the helper who was in the vehicle.”

Police said the helper was being questioned for information about the driver.
