Bangladesh hi-tech park has attracted $1.64 billion in proposals. Global technology companies are eyeing data center project.

Kaliakair Hi-Tech Park has attracted $283 million in investment against proposed investments totaling $1.63 billion, posts, telecommunications and information technology minister Faqir Mahbub Anam said Saturday.

Anam said seven companies from China, Japan, India, South Korea and the United States had submitted proposals worth $629 million. Google, Meta and TikTok have also proposed investing in an artificial intelligence data center project being developed by a U.S.-based company, he said.

Officials said 85 companies have been allotted plots or space at the park, with 40 already operating, 28 establishing plants and 17 preparing to begin construction.

Government spending on basic infrastructure has exceeded Tk500 crore (approximately $40.5 million).

“If a proper business ecosystem is developed, the park could generate direct and indirect employment for around one lakh people,” Anam said.
