Delta Pharma has begun work on a $100 million pharmaceutical manufacturing complex in Bangladesh’s National Special Economic Zone in Mirsarai, with commercial production targeted for 2029.
Associate companies Delta Life Sciences PLC and Delta API Ltd have secured 42 acres for the project, which is expected to receive about $43 million in first-phase investment. Delta API plans to invest $12.3 million in a dedicated active pharmaceutical ingredient plant.
Delta Pharma managing director Dr. Md Zakir Hossain said Bangladesh currently imports 85% to 95% of pharmaceutical raw materials, increasing the importance of domestic production as the country graduates from least developed country status.
“We need uninterrupted supplies of gas, water and electricity once production begins,” Hossain said.
Bangladesh exported $238.49 million in pharmaceutical products in fiscal 2026, up from $213 million the previous year.
