Sheikh Hasina is expected to address a virtual event in New Delhi on Wednesday, Aug. 5, says Indian media

Former Bangladesh prime minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to address a virtual event in New Delhi on Wednesday, her first major public appearance since her government was toppled two years ago.

The Foreign Correspondents’ Club of South Asia event is scheduled from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Sir Mark Tully Auditorium and is expected to be livestreamed. Hasina is likely to discuss plans to return to Bangladesh. Her son, Sajeeb Wazed Joy, and former education minister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Nowfel are also expected to speak.

Hasina, 78, has said she intends to return by December despite facing arrest, imprisonment or death. She was sentenced to death in absentia in November 2025 over the deadly crackdown on the 2024 student-led uprising, charges she rejects as politically motivated.

Bangladesh law minister M Asaduzzaman said she would likely be arrested upon entering the country.
