Bangladesh recorded 17 mob killings in July. Political clashes killed six more.

At least 17 people were killed and 51 injured in mob violence across Bangladesh in July, while political clashes left six dead and 164 injured, according to a Human Rights Support Society report released Monday.

The group recorded 49 mob violence incidents linked to allegations including theft, robbery, local disputes and “hurting religious sentiments.” It also documented 45 political clashes, down from 58 in June.

The report said 258 women and girls faced violence, including 95 rape victims, 61 of them under 18. It recorded abuse against 180 children, with 34 deaths.

Human Rights Support Society also reported three deaths in custody, 55 journalists facing abuse and 9,157 arrests in political and other incidents.

In labor-related cases, 23 workers were killed in violence, while 55 died in workplace accidents blamed on unsafe conditions and inadequate protective equipment.
