Bangladesh prime minister orders 24/7 operations at all ports nationwide

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman directed all sea, land, and airports across the country to operate 24 hours a day during a high-level meeting with business leaders at the Prime Minister’s Office in Tejgaon on Saturday.

Mahdi Amin, the Prime Minister’s Advisor and Office Spokesperson, announced the directive after the meeting where representatives from Chattogram Port and Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport proposed extended import-export operations.

Under the new order, all government agencies will coordinate to ensure continuous 24-hour service at every port nationwide, aiming to make trade activities faster and more competitive.

The meeting addressed various business sector issues including investment barriers and policy reforms needed for private sector development. Discussions also covered strategies to boost domestic and foreign investment in economic zones managed by the Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA) and the Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (BEPZA).
