Bangladesh wants more American investment. Delegation of 25 US firms will explore opportunities.

About 45 senior executives from 25 U.S. companies are expected to visit Bangladesh by the end of next week to explore investment opportunities, a government spokesperson said Saturday.

Prime Minister’s Office spokesperson Mahdi Amin said the delegation would meet Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and officials from several ministries. Talks are expected to focus on trade, investment, bilateral economic cooperation and job creation.

“The US side expressed confidence in the prime minister’s leadership and said Bangladesh has regained stability and is moving forward on the democratic path,” Amin said.

The planned visit follows talks between Rahman and U.S. special envoy for South and Central Asia Sergio Gor.

Rahman also met Bangladeshi business leaders Saturday to discuss power and gas shortages, tax reforms and investment barriers. Amin said Rahman instructed authorities to ensure round-the-clock operations at major ports and Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.
