Rapid Action Battalion officers arrested a man accused of fatally stabbing his wife in front of their two children after she refused to give him money for drugs, officials said on Tuesday.
Nasima Akter, 27, was killed about 2:30 a.m. Monday at the family’s rented home in Sreepur, Gazipur. Authorities said her husband, Sayedul Islam, 40, demanded 3,000 taka after she received her garment factory salary.
An argument followed, and Sayedul allegedly stabbed Nasima repeatedly as their 8-year-old daughter and 5-year-old son watched.
Rapid Action Battalion 1 commanding officer lieutenant colonel Md Neyamul Halim Chowdhury said officers arrested Sayedul within 24 hours. He was transferred to Sreepur police for further legal action. Officials said he had no prior criminal record.
