Dhaka’s two city corporations failed to meet their pledge to remove sacrificial animal waste within 12 hours after Eid al-Adha, with waste still accumulating in several neighborhoods by Saturday.
Piles of animal waste remained visible in Narinda, Jatrabari, Bakshibazar and Road 6 in Dhanmondi, according to local reports. Residents complained of an unbearable stench from waste left for two days and said street sweepers had not arrived to collect garbage.
The Dhaka South City Corporation said at least 29,000 tons of waste had been permanently dumped over the previous three days.
Residents attributed the recurring problem to poor planning and coordination by authorities. In Bakshibazar, cleanup activity reportedly increased only after media representatives arrived at the scene.
