Army personnel allegedly detained 21 journalists and staffers from Bangladesh Times in Dhaka’s Nikunja area last night.
The incident occurred around 9:30 PM after soldiers entered the news outlet’s office. According to Mobile Journalism Editor-in-Chief Sabbir Ahmed, they claimed the publication’s video criticizing the army during a protest was problematic and advised it should not be published.
Detained individuals included security guards, office staff, and several journalists. One staff member reportedly received a WhatsApp message from someone at the Uttara Army Camp requesting them to stop uploading certain content related to protests on Friday.
Later, a Facebook live update revealed that all 21 had been released shortly after being taken to the army camp around 11:30 PM. An army officer described the arrest as “a small issue, nothing serious,” but declined to give further details regarding the specific reason.
