Chuadanga in western Bangladesh recorded its lowest winter temperature this year, dropping to 8.2 degrees Celsius/46.76 degrees Fahrenheit amid thick fog and chilly winds Wednesday morning.
Altaf Hossain, an observer at the district’s meteorological department office, confirmed the reading at 6 a.m., adding that conditions had worsened over days.
Farmers like Rafiqul Islam of Monirampur village said they could not work due to persistent fog and cold. “We fear crops may get damaged,” he told bdnews24.com. Meanwhile, day laborers such as Kalam Mondol reported returning empty-handed after failing to find work despite braving the weather.
Health concerns also rose. Nazrul Islam of Garabaria village sought treatment for respiratory issues, while Bhanu Khatun suffered from diarrhea. Hospitals in Chuadanga saw a surge in patients, reflecting widespread cold-related illnesses.
