Bangladesh’s first woman prime minister, Khaleda Zia, was buried on Wednesday with state honors beside her husband, former president Ziaur Rahman, at Zia Udyan in Dhaka.

Zia, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party chairwoman, died a day earlier in a Dhaka hospital after a long bout of old age illness, according to live updates.

Her namaz-e-janaza was held today at the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban, with the prayer beginning at 3:02 p.m. The khatib of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque led the janaza, while Bangladesh Nationalist Party standing committee member Nazrul Islam Khan conducted proceedings.
