Bangladesh leader Khaleda Zia to fly to London for advanced medical treatment

Former Bangladeshi prime minister Khaleda Zia is set to be flown to London for advanced medical treatment after doctors recommended her immediate transfer abroad.

Speaking at Evercare Hospital in Dhaka on Thursday, her personal physician Dr. Zahid Hossain said the decision followed consultations with specialist physicians overseeing her care for the past 12 days. He confirmed that she will travel on an air ambulance provided by the government of Qatar.

She is expected to fly out within next 24 hours.

A senior Bangladesh Nationalist Party official said 14 people will accompany her, including daughter-in-law Syeda Sharmila Rahman, several physicians, security officials, political aides and two housemaids.

Khaleda Zia previously received treatment in London earlier this year, remaining there for nearly four months before returning to Dhaka on 6 May.
