Two Bangladeshis were shot dead by India’s Border Security Force in separate incidents along borders in Lalmonirhat and Moulvibazar on Thursday.
Police identified the victims as Sabuj Mia, 30, of Patgram, and Shukuram Urang, 25, of Kulaura. Local residents said Sabuj was among several men who entered the zero-line area near Patgram to bring cattle when Border Security Force personnel opened fire.
Lt col Mujahid Masum of Border Guard Bangladesh said information indicated Sabuj’s body was taken to an Indian hospital for autopsy, and he confirmed that Bangladesh lodged a formal protest.
In Moulvibazar, police said Shukuram was working on farmland near pillar 1844 when Border Security Force members fired at him. He died while being taken to a hospital.
