Bangladesh police arrest two after journalists attacked in Mymensingh by political party leader

Four journalists were injured Saturday in Bangladesh after they were attacked while reporting on a land-grabbing allegation in Mymensingh’s Trishal upazila, police said.

Officer in charge Monsur Ahammed said the journalists visited Horirampur village around 10:30 a.m. when a group led by Saiful Islam Swapon, a joint convener of the Harirampur union unit of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party and a union parishad member, assaulted them with sticks.

The injured are Motiur Rahman Selim of Samakal, Abdulalh Al Fahad of Kalbela, SM Masud Rana of Sakaler Somoy, and Rakibul Hasan Sumon of Naya Shatabdi.

Locals rescued them and took them to the Trishal health complex, where two remain under treatment.

Ahammed said Motiur filed a case, and police arrested Swapon and another suspect while searching for the remaining accused.
