Bangladesh man shot dead by Indian Border Security Force at Chuadanga border

A Bangladeshi man was shot dead by India’s Border Security Force at the Gayeshpur border in Chuadanga district on Saturday, according to local officials.

The force took the body of the victim, identified as 37-year-old Shahidul Islam of Gayeshpur village, after the shooting.

Locals said Shahidul and several others had crossed into India near main pillar 70 in the afternoon. Members of Border Security Force 32 Battalion opened fire, killing him on the spot, while the others fled back into Bangladesh.

Lieutenant colonel Rafiqul Alam, commander of Border Guard Bangladesh Maheshpur 58 Battalion, said the shooting occurred about 50 yards inside India.

“The initial report suggests they had gone there to bring drugs. Contact is underway with the Border Security Force to bring the body back,” he said.
