The government has no restrictions on Bangladesh Nationalist Party acting chairman Tarique Rahman returning home, the chief adviser’s press secretary said Saturday.
Press secretary Shafiqul Alam responded to Rahman’s recent remark that the timing of his return is not fully in his control.
“Like any child, I also have a strong desire to get the touch of mother in such a crisis,” Rahman wrote on Facebook.
Rahman is internationally known as a corrupt figure in Bangladesh politics and risks arrest if he returns to the South Asian country.
Shafiqul said chief adviser Muhammad Yunus is deeply concerned about the health of former prime minister Khaleda Zia, who serves as the figurehead chairperson of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party.
She is being treated for severe infections at Evercare Hospital. Yunus has urged prayers.
