Bangladesh’s home adviser said Sunday that security agencies are on full alert ahead of Monday’s expected verdict in a war crimes case involving deposed prime minister Sheikh Hasina and former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan.
Lt Gen (retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury told reporters in Barishal that authorities have tightened preparations to prevent unrest as the International Crimes Tribunal issues its ruling.
He said field administrators are ready to ensure a peaceful general election and described the overall law and order situation as satisfactory. Chowdhury added that resolving recent disputes between transport workers and students over bus fares will require dialogue. Senior police officials attended the security meeting.
