Expatriate Bangladeshis will be able to vote in both the upcoming national election and the national referendum for the first time through a new IT-supported postal system, the Election Commission said.
The EC will launch its “Postal Vote BD” mobile app on 18 November, giving overseas citizens four weeks to register with their NID and accurate foreign address.
Ballots will include all 119 election symbols and a “No” option, while referendum ballots will offer Yes or No. Embassies have been instructed to assist voters, and late-arriving ballots will not be counted.
The EC aims to register up to 5 million voters, estimating a cost of about $5.73 per postal vote, with a total projected budget of roughly $28.6 million.
