Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus said India has struggled to accept the student-led uprising that reshaped Bangladesh last year, arguing “Delhi didn’t like what our students did.”
Speaking in New York on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, Yunus criticized India for hosting ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who he said caused turmoil and was responsible for youth deaths. He warned that disinformation, including claims that Bangladesh’s young reformers were Taliban-linked, was harming bilateral relations.
“They even said I’m a Taliban too. I don’t have a beard. I left it at home,” Yunus joked. He called the spread of such fake news a “very bad thing.”
