Bangladesh Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus urged a revival of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation, saying the bloc was envisioned as a family of nations promoting economic and cultural ties.
“You can invest in Bangladesh. Bangladesh is going to invest in your territory. That’s the whole idea of SAARC,” Yunus told an Asia Society event in New York. He said the initiative faltered because of political objections from “one country,” but Bangladesh remains committed.
Yunus emphasized cross-border student exchanges, friendships, and joint ventures, saying regional unity could ease tensions and open new opportunities. “Bringing people together is the only way to solve our issues,” he said.
