Dhaka University has announced that 35 of its faculty members and researchers have been included in the “World’s Top 2% Scientists 2025” list, compiled by Stanford University and Netherlands-based publisher Elsevier.
The list recognizes academics worldwide based on published papers, citations, H-index, consistency, and the impact of co-authors. Last year, only 10 DU researchers were featured, making this year’s number a sharp increase.
Vice Chancellor Prof Niaz Ahmed Khan congratulated the faculty and hailed the recognition as a mark of academic excellence.
But for a nation of 170 million people, 35 scientists making the cut is hardly sufficient. While the achievement deserves acknowledgment, it underscores how far Bangladesh still has to go in fostering a culture of research and innovation. The country must do better to compete globally.
