Bangladesh’s interim administration led by Muhammad Yunus has directed local governments to crack down on disorder as the country prepares for elections in early February.
Officials said surveillance will increase on flash processions and illegal gatherings, and local authorities were told to respond more aggressively to unrest.
The move follows an attack in Rajbari’s Goalanda, where a darbar sharif was vandalized, the body of “Nural Pagla” exhumed and burned, leaving one dead and at least 22 injured. Police have arrested seven suspects, including two tied to Awami League affiliates.
The government also ordered heightened security for Durga Puja celebrations and urged vigilance to prevent further violence, framing recent unrest as a national security concern.
