Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has signed agreements with 420 hospitals to provide affordable healthcare for its cleaners, administrator Md Abdus Salam said Monday in Bangladesh.
He also announced a compensation program offering Tk400,000 (approximately $3,244) to families of workers who die while performing their duties, The Financial Express reported.
Salam outlined the measures at an event launching beautification work at a waste transfer station in North Shahjahanpur. Protective equipment was distributed to cleaners afterward to improve workplace safety and reduce health risks.
He said cleaners’ welfare and health protection were essential to maintaining a clean city. He also urged businesses to use designated waste bins and residents to report civic service complaints.
The report did not specify hospital discounts, eligibility procedures, or when cleaners could begin using the healthcare agreements.
