Japanese conglomerate Marubeni Corporation expressed interest in expanding investments in Bangladesh, including establishing a second Karnaphuli Fertilizer Company Limited (KAFCO), during talks with prime minister Tareq Rahman on Sunday.
A delegation led by Marubeni president and chief executive officer Masayuki Omoto discussed opportunities in information technology, artificial intelligence (AI), cybersecurity, fertilizer, and energy, according to prime minister’s deputy press secretary Shahadat Swadhin.
Participants reviewed potential Marubeni investment and technological cooperation in an AI-based data center planned for Bangladesh within a year. They also discussed agricultural technology and expanding Marubeni’s existing KAFCO investment.
Rahman welcomed investment and emphasized workforce development.
“By leveraging its skilled workforce, technological capabilities, and competitive service opportunities, Bangladesh can develop into a significant international service center,” he said.
Discussions also covered strengthening longstanding jute trade ties and cooperation in new sectors.
