Bangladesh seeks U.S. firm’s proposal for border screening

Bangladesh has asked United States-based Securiport to submit a detailed proposal by Oct. 22 for modernizing immigration and border management, according to reporting by The Business Standard.

Home ministry senior secretary Manzur Morshed Chowdhury sent the request Oct. 4. A cabinet committee approved pursuing direct procurement from the company Sept. 9, but officials said the initiative remained preliminary.

The proposed system would use biometrics and passenger information provided before flight departures to check travelers against international police databases and domestic watchlists.

Three committees will examine Securiport’s technical capabilities, proposed fees, and draft agreement. Authorities want guarantees covering government ownership of data, cybersecurity, technology transfer, and continued operation of the system.

“The initiative is still at a preliminary phase,” Manzur Morshed told the newspaper Oct. 7. No deployment date has been confirmed.
