Bangladesh police detain three after crude bomb blast near prime minister’s office

Police detained three suspects after a crude bomb exploded near an entrance to Agargaon Bypass Road, opposite the boundary wall of the prime minister’s office, early Saturday.

Two youths riding a motorcycle from Jahangir Gate toward the office hurled two crude bombs between 1:10 a.m. and 1:15 a.m. Oct. 10.

One exploded, and a bomb disposal unit later defused the unexploded device.

Ibne Mizan, deputy commissioner of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Tejgaon Division, said police collected and analyzed closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage following the incident.

Investigators were examining additional footage to identify those involved in the explosion, he said.

Police filed a case under the Explosive Substances Act at Tejgaon Police Station. Authorities described those detained as suspects, and the report did not identify them.
