Police arrested a madrasa teacher accused of sexually abusing six children at an institution in Narail Municipality.
Police said a woman visited her son at Tafsir Uddin Hafezia Madrasa on Aug. 28, when the child told her that teacher Mahbubur Rahman, 25, had sexually assaulted him the previous night.
After the allegation was reported to madrasa authorities, the child described the incident to them. Five other children at the madrasa then said they had experienced similar abuse.
Rahman, pictured, fled after the allegations became known.
“It was disclosed that the students had been raped or sodomized by this teacher,” said Ajoy Kumar Kundu, inspector (investigation) at Sadar Police Station, Narail.
Mother of one of the alleged victims filed a complaint at Narail Sadar Police Station on Saturday night.
Police said officers arrested Rahman in Gacha, in the Gazipur Metropolitan Area, within 10 hours of the case being registered. He was subsequently brought back to Narail.
