A Cox’s Bazar court on Friday sent six Chinese nationals to jail over allegations they were involved in an international online fraud ring, according to court and police officials.
Ramu police produced the six before Cox’s Bazar chief judicial magistrate court around 6 p.m. judge Asad Uddin Md Asad ordered them jailed after health examinations, court sources said.
Police arrested them Thursday night during a raid at Hotel Sea Palace in Cox’s Bazar’s Kalatali area, additional superintendent of police Ahidur Rahman said.
Officers seized 1,938 iPhones, 30 laptops, and other communication equipment. Police said more than 250 people allegedly linked to online fraud may be operating in Cox’s Bazar and elsewhere in Bangladesh.
A case has been filed against the six on allegations related to online fraud and cybercrime.
