Police seized 22,500 yaba tablets from a private car in Bandarban town Friday afternoon and arrested its driver, authorities said.
Police identified the driver as Zakir, 33. Officers from Bandarban Sadar Police Station stopped the car near Traffic Mor and found 15 bundles wrapped in yellow cellophane tape. Each bundle held 10 packets, with 150 tablets in each packet.
Police said they suspect additional yaba may be hidden elsewhere in the vehicle and continued searching it.
“The search is still ongoing,” said Shahid Parvez, officer-in-charge of Bandarban Sadar Police Station.
Zakir was taken to the police station, and the car was seized.
Bandarban superintendent of police Wahabul Islam Khandaker said the operation was part of intensified anti-drug drives in the district. Police were preparing to file a case under the Narcotics Control Act.
