Bangladesh provides $1 million for Nepal disaster relief and recovery

Bangladesh has provided $1 million, equivalent to Tk 12.3 crore (approximately $1.002 million), to Nepal for relief, recovery, and humanitarian efforts after devastating floods and mudslides in the country’s northern region, the foreign ministry said Thursday.

State minister for foreign affairs Humaiun Kobir conveyed the assistance to Nepalese ambassador in Dhaka Ghanshyam Bhandari during a meeting at state guest house Padma.

Kobir also handed Bhandari a letter from prime minister Tarique Rahman to Nepalese prime minister Balendra Shah expressing Bangladesh’s condolences over the loss of lives and property.

The money was contributed to Nepal’s Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund.

Kobir signed a condolence book at the Nepalese Embassy in Dhaka on Sept. 1. Bangladesh Jatiya Sangsad had earlier adopted a condolence motion on Aug. 27 following the disaster.
