Bangladesh home minister rejects claims of worsening law and order

Bangladesh’s home minister Salahuddin Ahmed said Thursday that the country’s law and order situation has improved by every measure compared with 2025, rejecting suggestions that crime has worsened.

Speaking at a home ministry news conference on the Tabligh Jamaat’s Bishwa Ijtema, Salahuddin said Police Headquarters compiles district-level statistics on murder, abduction, rape, violence against women, firearms offenses, and other crimes.

“Our data does not say that,” he said when asked about an alleged deterioration in law and order.

Salahuddin said the government was satisfied with the current situation, though more time would be needed to meet public expectations.

He invited journalists to verify police records and said any discrepancies in district figures could be raised.

“We are very transparent,” Salahuddin said, adding that he would comment only on official police data, evidence, and records.
