Bangladesh border guards detain 4 Rohingyas allegedly trying to enter India

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) detained four Rohingyas, including two women, near the Magurmari border area in Panchagarh Sadar upazila after they allegedly tried to enter India illegally, officials said.

A BGB patrol detained the four around 6 a.m. near the Titihipara area of Satmera union, about 600 yards inside Bangladesh. They were identified as two married couples from Rohingya refugee camps in Ukhia, Cox’s Bazar.

Subedar Ekabbar Rahman, company commander of the Magurmari Border Outpost, said the detainees told BGB that six to seven human traffickers brought them to the border in exchange for Tk 60,000, approximately $489. The traffickers fled after sensing BGB personnel and took the detainees’ mobile phones, he said.

BGB later handed the four to Panchagarh Sadar Police Station. Police said preparations were underway to produce them before a court.
