Bangladesh says Rohingya genocide verdict expected from ICJ in October

International Court of Justice (ICJ) is expected to deliver a verdict in October in Gambia’s Rohingya genocide case against Myanmar, Gambia’s attorney general and justice minister, Dawda A. Jallow, said Thursday.

Jallow gave the update during a meeting with Bangladesh state minister for foreign affairs Humaiun Kobir on the sidelines of the 23rd Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Extraordinary Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) in Jeddah.

Jallow said a ruling on accountability for atrocities against Rohingya people would be critical to finding a sustainable solution to the crisis.

Kobir praised Gambia’s leadership in pursuing accountability before ICJ and called for closer cooperation between Dhaka and Banjul. He also urged continued international efforts toward a comprehensive solution, including safe, dignified, and voluntary return of Rohingya people to Myanmar.
