Bangladesh asks Qatar for priority gas supplies after Hormuz reopens. Doha signals readiness for deeper energy ties.

Bangladesh urged Qatar to prioritize liquefied natural gas (LNG) supplies once maritime traffic resumes through the Strait of Hormuz, the foreign ministry said Thursday.

State minister for foreign affairs Humaiun Kobir made the request during talks with Qatar’s minister of state for foreign affairs, Sultan bin Saad Al-Muraikhi, on the sidelines of the 23rd Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Extraordinary Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) in Jeddah.

Kobir reaffirmed Bangladesh’s support for Qatar’s mediation between Iran and the United States and praised Doha’s role in promoting dialogue, regional peace, and stability.

The Qatari state minister thanked Bangladesh for its support and said Doha was ready to strengthen energy cooperation with Dhaka. Officials also discussed other issues of mutual interest, according to the foreign ministry press release.
