Bangladesh border resident killed in landmine explosion near Arakan Army-controlled camp

A Bangladeshi man was killed Monday in a landmine explosion inside Myanmar near the Bangladesh border in Bandarban, police said.

Md Saiful, 35, of Painchhari in Dochhari Union, was injured around 10 a.m. near Border Pillar 52, Naikhyangchhari Police Station officer-in-charge Md Mozammel Haque said. Saiful was taken to Naikhyangchhari Upazila Health Complex, where a doctor declared him dead.

Haque, citing residents of the border area, said the blast occurred about 400 meters inside Myanmar from the Bangladesh-Myanmar zero line, near Duillyazhiri camp, which is controlled by the Arakan Army. He said the landmine was allegedly planted by the Arakan Army.

At least five people have been killed and more than 31 injured in landmine explosions along the Bangladesh-Myanmar border over the past year, according to local sources.
