65-year-old businessman hacked to death in Bangladesh’s Sylhet

A 65-year-old businessman was hacked to death in Sylhet’s Shahporan area early Monday, police said.

The victim, Sahab Uddin, was a resident of Beanibazar’s Charkhai area and lived with his family in Shahporan Islamabad, according to Mohammad Monir Hossain, officer-in-charge (OC) of Shahporan Police Station. He operated a consumer goods business at Charkhai Bazar.

Uddin’s younger son, Redwan Ahmed, said the family learned that some people had detained his father.

“We were informed that some people had detained my father. I went to the spot immediately and found my father lying on the street with injuries,” Ahmed said.

Sylhet Metropolitan Police additional deputy commissioner for media Monjur Ahmed said, “We have recovered the body and sent it to the morgue. Police are working to uncover the circumstances surrounding the incident.”

Police did not immediately provide details about suspects or a motive.
